The Power of Story-Play: Fostering language, play and cognition in the early years
Claire Jennings has created and manages three programs for families and children 0-8years. Rainbow Rhyming caters for children 0-3 years and is based on rhymes, songs and simple linear story-play. Beyond The Rainbow and into The Dreamtime is aimed at children 4-8 years and explores stories in fantasy realms, including the Australian Dreamtime. The Reading Discovery Program is a home-based program suitable for working with families one-on-one.
The program is researched in partnership with Deakin University and the session will highlight the spectacular results, detailing language, play and social development in children and parents involved. Whilst the program works well with vulnerable families, it integrates successfully into play based curriculum in the junior primary school years.
The workshops will demonstrate how to plan and implement Story-Play, with practical demonstrations easily able to be implemented by early childhood practitioners, teachers and parents. Claire will show how the programs align with the EYLF.
