ALEA National Awards
LIFE MEMBERSHIP
The Life Membership Award honours those members who have made a sustained contribution to the Association over an extended period of time, demonstrating excellence, commitment, diversity and continuity at the local, state, and national level in leadership, administration and the promotion of the aims and purposes of the Association. In addition the member will have also made some contribution to ALEA at the international level.
Criteria for Selection
The nominee will have demonstrated the following:
• A substantial contribution to ALEA over an extended period of time
• Commitment, diversity and continuity in leadership at the local, state and national level of ALEA
• Proven administrative skills at the local, state and national level of ALEA
• Promotion of the aims and purposes of the Association at the local, state and national level.
• Some international contribution to one or more of the following aspects of ALEA -
leadership
administration
promotion of the aims and purposes of the Association
Award entitlement
• Certificate
• Free membership to the association for life
THE ALEA MEDAL
The ALEA Medal recognises and honours those members who have made a considerable contribution to the Association. The member will have demonstrated excellence, commitment, diversity and continuity at the local, state and/or national level in more than one of the following areas:
• leadership
• administration
• promotion of the aims and purposes of the Association
Criteria for selection
The nominee will have demonstrated more than one of the following:
• Commitment, diversity and continuity in leadership at the local, state and/or national level of ALEA
• Excellent administrative skills at the local, state and/or national level of ALEA
• Promoted the aims and purposes of the Association at the local, state and/or national level in continuous and diverse ways
• Extended and active length of service as a member of ALEA
Award entitlement
• ALEA medal
THE ALEA CITATION OF MERIT AWARD FOR LITERACY
(The Garth Boomer Award)
The ALEA Citation of Merit Award for Literacy recognises and honours an individual's outstanding contribution to literacy education over a sustained period of time.
Criteria for selection
The nominee will have demonstrated:
• An outstanding contribution to the area of literacy education
• A contribution over a sustained period of time
Award entitlement
• Certificate
THE ALEA CITATION OF MERIT AWARD FOR RESEARCH
The ALEA Citation of Merit Award for Research recognises an individual's outstanding published research in the past year which contributes significantly to the advancement of knowledge in the area of language and literacy.
Criteria for selection
The nominee will have demonstrated:
• An outstanding ability to undertake research in a significant area of language and literacy
• Evidence of recent publication of this research
• That the research contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the area of language and literacy education
Award entitlement
• Certificate
Nomination Procedure for ALEA National Awards
Individual ALEA members may be nominated by any two ALEA members by submitting the following:
1. Background information including -
• Name of the Award
• Name, home and workplace address, telephone and email details of the nominee
• Name, address, telephone and email details of the writers of the submission
2. A two page application which addresses the criteria for the nominated award
3. Nominee’s current CV
Nominations for national awards should be sent to the Secretary of the National Council by 31 March each year for consideration for presentation of awards at the ALEA National Conference later in the year.
