ALEA State Awards
THE ALEA CERTIFICATE OF COMMENDATION TO LOCAL COUNCILS (The Special Services Award)
The ALEA Special Services Award recognises and honours an individual member’s outstanding contribution to the aims and purposes of the Association at state and/or local level.
Criteria for selection
The nominee will have demonstrated:
• Outstanding service that contributes to the aims and purposes of ALEA, beyond that expected under the terms of current role descriptions and responsibilities
• Contributions to ALEA over a substantial period of time

Nomination Procedure for ALEA State Awards
Individual ALEA members may be nominated by any two ALEA members by submitting the following:
1. Background information including -
a. Name of the Award
b. Name, home and workplace address, telephone and email details of the nominee
c. Name, address, telephone and email details of the writers of the submission
2. A two page application which addresses the criteria for the nominated award
3. Nominee’s current CV
Nominations for State Awards should be sent to the State Director by 31 March each year for consideration for presentation at the ALEA State Conference or similar event.
UNIVERSITY AWARDS
Each year an ALEA prize of a year's membership to the Association is awarded to outstanding teacher education students in the final, core English Language and Literacy subject in their course.
The students eligible to enter come from pre-service teacher education courses and from collaborating universities. Local Councils may also choose to present an award to a post-graduate student. Generally, one award is offered for each university and for each campus with teacher education courses.

• Free membership of ALEA for one year
