Local Councils

ALEA Local Councils

ALEA has an active presence in all states and territories through its 20 Local Councils. Local Councils are the focal point of local members’ activities and are part of a strong ALEA network across Australia. All members of ALEA automatically become a member of their Local Council when they join the Association.

Each Local Council has their own elected officers who are responsible for liaising with local members, organising professional development workshops, helping to build an effective literacy community in their area, and supporting the national objectives of the Association.

A State Director is elected for each state and territory, to liaise with and support the various Local Councils, and to represent their interests on ALEA National Council.

You can access information about your Local Council through the State and Territory webpages below. Links to State and Territory webpages are also located at the bottom of each ALEA website page for your convenience.
