ALEA Projects

ALEA provides input into a range of AITSL forums and activities and from time to time manages specific projects on behalf of the Institute.

International Literacy Day (ILD) - 8 September

Since 1984 the Australian Literacy Educators' Association (ALEA) has presented the gift of a book to as many new babies as possible, born in Australia on International Literacy Day, September 8.  Activities marking this occasion have broadened since, but ILD remains a focus for ALEA local councils.

MyRead is a project of ALEA and the Australian Association for the Teaching of English, funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training.  Click through for more information or go straight to the MyRead website at the link below.

NLNW National Celebration of Literacy

ALEA has been involved in organising the Literacy activity for National Literacy and Numeracy Week (NLNW) since 2007. Plan for your school to be involved. Click through to read more or go straight to the NLNW site at the link below.

STELLA Standards

The Standards for the Teaching of English Language and Literacy in Australia (STELLA) are the result of a three year research project funded by the Department of Education Science and Technology to create subject specific standards for English and literacy educators. Timor Leste

The Australian Literacy Educators’ Association (ALEA), an affiliate of ILA, and the Australian Association for the Teaching of English (AATE) have supported literacy initiatives in East Timor/Timor Leste over the past few years. What began as a response to a closing plenary presentation by Kirsty Sword Gusmao, First Lady of Timor Leste, at the 2006 Darwin ALEA/AATE conference, developed and blossomed into a wonderful reality.
